An automatic indexing chuck is a mechanical device used to hold workpieces on machine tools. A machine tool accessory that uses the radial motion of the movable jaws evenly distributed on the chuck body to clamp and position the workpiece.
Automatic indexing chuck generally consists of a chuck body, a moving claw and a claw driving mechanism. The diameter of the chuck body is as small as 6S mm and as large as 1500 mm . There is a through hole in the center, which can penetrate the workpiece into the bar; the back is a cylindrical or short conical structure, connected to the end of the machine tool spindle directly or through a flange. The chuck is usually installed on lathes, cylindrical grinders and internal cylindrical grinders, and can also be used with various indexing devices on milling machines and drilling machines.

There are several methods for daily maintenance of automatic indexing chuck:
1. After the operation is completed, be sure to use an air gun or similar tool to clean the chuck body and sliding surface.
2. Using anti-rust cutting oil can prevent rust inside the chuck, because rust on the chuck will reduce the clamping force and make the workpiece unable to be clamped.
3. Apply molybdenum disulfide grease at least once a day, and drive the grease into the nozzle of the indexing chuck until it overflows the surface of the claw or the inner hole of the chuck. However, if the chuck is processed at a high speed or uses a large amount of water-based cutting oil, more lubrication is required, which must be determined according to different conditions.
4, In order to maintain the lathe chuck for a long time and still have good accuracy after long-term use, lubrication is very important. Incorrect or improper lubrication can cause problems such as abnormal function at low pressure, weakened clamping force, poor clamping accuracy, abnormal wear and seizure, so the chuck must be lubricated correctly.
5. Remove the chuck for disassembly and cleaning at least 6every month to keep the sliding surface of the jaw clean and lubricated. Increase the service life of the chuck. But if you are cutting cast iron at least once or several times 2a month , check the parts for cracks and wear, and replace them with new ones if they are serious. After the inspection is completed, it must be fully oiled. Only then can the components be assembled.
6, For different workpieces, different clamping methods must be used or special fixtures must be made. A three-jaw chuck is just a general purpose clamp. If used to clamp strange workpieces irregularly, the chuck will be damaged! If the chuck pressure is abnormal, the chuck will be under high pressure. Otherwise, the chuck will clamp the workpiece after the machine is shut down, reducing the life of the chuck! Therefore, when the chuck gap is found to be too large, a new indexing chuck must be replaced immediately.
